Actually depending on the horese (and rider) of course, I find that CTR's can lead to a bigger rodeo than any endurance ride. You can wait till everyone is gone from camp on an endurance ride to saddle up. You can't do that at a CTR. You can then ride out of camp without him seeing any other horses to feed off of. You can't do that at a CTR. You got 6 hours to finish an LD - that's plenty of time even if you leave 30 minutes after the start.

If I have a new horse to start ( and I do have a couple in the next two or three years) I'll probably do a few LD prior (starting very late and going very slow) to a CTR and use the LD to get them used to camping, being there, vet checks, etc. Then use the CTR to get them used to starting and seeing horses in front and horses coming from behind. Then back to endurance after that.

Any thoughts/comments/experiences with using CTR/MO to give experience to
green (not total babies, just green)horses prior to the rodeo of an AERC

    the pool?<g>

I like using CTR's to start the new ones. Less insanity. They have to learn
to pace themselves, go nicely along with the rest of the pack, and get
through a vet check as well as all the little things, like how to camp out,
eat while tied, not touch the electric fence while peeing...........

Of course, throwing them into the deep end does challenge your riding
    skills!
