Re: RC: pony a yearling?

I can tell you some things *not* to do (that's usually my specialty).
Don't give them a whole lot of line...that's when they turn around and
kick the fool out of you. DON'T tie the rope to ANYTHING (I wasn't that
stupid, but know a woman who actually hooked a panic snap to her saddle
but wasn't able to panic fast enough). I prefer a cotton lead and to
ride on a western saddle. One dally just for leverage is nice when
needed. Keep the rope short so the ponied horse's nose is at your leg.
Don't use a lunge line or anything like that. WAY too long and you could
get tangled in it. Hope your pony horse neckreins. You need to be
coordinated and it's nice to have a pony horse who is dominent enough to
use his teeth or a dirty look to make Jr. drop back if he forges ahead.
You just haven't known excitement until that ponied horse's rope gets
under your pony horse's tail...oh the stories you'll have to tell. :-)
