RE: Re: help with biothane

I've had the same problem - I bought an all rope sidepull and after a few rides noticed that my mare wouldn't let me pet her face.  I found that the sensitive areas matched up to all the melted ends of rope on the sidepull headstall.  I'm working on making a sidepull with biothane for the headstall, but the rope on the noseband will be turned outward, because it does seem necessary to melt the ends.  But if there are other solutions, I'm listening too!

Punch them out just like leather, THEN get a pair of pliers, and a large nail. with the pliers, hold the nail over a flame till really hot, and stick it in  the hole, it melts the edges and voila! you have it. Annie

We've done this with NYLON billet straps and it leaves rough edges.  Has anyone else done this?  How do you smooth those edges?  I've actually cut myself on them once.  Can't be too good for the horse either.
