Sandy, years ago a friends two year old filly had an accident while turned out and sustained a bad blow to her shoulder. She had severe nerve damage resulting in major muscle atrophy. She initially had extremely limited use of the leg. There was some improvement, she can get around the field now but is unrideable. The normal function never returned. There had to be permanent nerve damage that never fully healed. I would just not get involved with this horse if I were you.

Out here, we call it a "Prophet's finger".  Toc has one right at teh base of his throat, where the neck joins the chest area.  It's quite deep and about the length of a man's middle finger.
