Seems to me that if it takes 6 hours to do the LD, the horse should be
minimally stressed, and hence should be down as soon as it crosses the
finish line. Furthermore, that has been my experience with LD horses that
were not raced to be at the front of the pack--if ridden to simply complete,
and if they are even the least bit fit, they tend to come in at or near
pulse criterion.
