Things change.  When one of my friends shot himself in the arm
with a pistol 25 years ago, they had him flush out the wound with
hydrogen peroxide once a day through the drainage tube.

Yes, that's true---it does work great for removing blood.  After surgery, we do use it for cleaning up bloodstains, but even then, the clinicians tell us not to get it into the incision itself.  Also, it can be used to get a dog (and other species) to vomit if you don't have apomorphine or ipecac or other emetics around, and you're trying to get the animal to empty itself out for whatever reason.  Every cloud has its silver lining, I guess.
