I feel that the issue was how it was presented to the riders as a group.
As I was looking over this topic it had somehow turned into an issue if Dave
was a good vet or not. I feel that it didn't have anything to do with the
talent of him being a good vet or not a good vet. He is a good vet and he is
good at being a wonderful endurance vet.
The problem is that he is a professional authority figure while making a
speech at a ride meeting. The speech must not have been very professional in
advising safety for so many to have been upset. With this in mind, riders
that do know him have the knowledge of knowing that his speeches tend to be
on a more point of view and not tactful side. But with riders that have
never been to a ride with him being the head vet and making a speech that
way, it might be a little too much for them to grasp.
To have people understand the safety measures of this sport we need to
guide & advise and always in a professional way. We have horses here that
depend on us and educating others is the only way. People are there to enjoy
what they do. Not "all of them" are guilty before innocent.
Just a bottom line thought here is...after someone makes a speech like
that. Would you want to come to him for help after your horse needs his help
with IV's or something? Gee, would you be feeling kind of scared to approach
him? Sometimes this happens and it's not always the riders fault. Maybe it
was the horses off day or it was coming down with a cold and just didn't
drink well, etc., etc....and now you need help.
