Re: RC: High-line/setting up camp

Hi. I believe what you're describing is a picket line. I belong to a club called the Ohio Horseman's Council. Anyway, we use picket lines and 2 weekends ago was my first time, and the horses first time to use them all weekend. In all the years they've been using them, the only horses that got loose were the ones that slipped out of loose halters. My horses did very very well. All the people camping (and there were about 30-40 horses) used different ways of tying their water and hay to the line. I used trailer ties for my water, you know, one end clipped to the line and the other end clipped to the water bucket. Worked perfectly. It's heavy so it doesn't slide down the line. Also, I use a double end snap for the hay bag but I clip it to the ring on the line so it doesn't slide. Some people had bale bags with double end snaps on either end so they weren't filling bags all the time and 2 horses could eat out of the same bag. The horses were lying down also but I didn't tie them so low like and inch off the ground. I was afraid of them stepping over it but it wasn't a problem.
I hope this helps. Deb
