Hi Betty: Good reply. I wanted to add "The American Endurance RIDE 
Conference" also known as AERC has a motto "TO FINISH IS TO WIN" . If you 
finish LAST in the allowed time you are still a winner. A award is given to 
all finishers. It is prudent to Ride if you want to finish. Only Riders who 
have very well conditioned horses generally RACE. There are always a few at 
every RIDE. It's a matter of choice.
