No, but they can and DO eat elk, deer, antelope--as well as livestock and HORSES.

We have had wolves forcibly "re"introduced here in Idaho (I've put the "re" part in quotes because they never had a historically established population here to begin with--just migratory ones from time to time). They are decimating the elk and deer herds here. They have wreaked havoc with cattle herds. Here in Lemhi county, I know of one incident just a few miles from town where a group of children were playing and wolves took their pet dog. In another incident, not far from where we live, wolves took a yearling QH filly out of a round corral right behind one of our neighbors' houses. A few weeks ago, a couple packed into the forest and had wolves harrassing their horses. They turned the horses loose and tried to shoot over the wolves' backs to scare them off. As a result, one wolf turned on the husband, and then diverted at the last minute to go for the wife. Knowing her husband is a good shot, she dropped to the ground and the husband was able to shoot it and kill it just as it got to her.

You do NOT want wolves in your area! Or, if you think you do, would you PLEASE come and take some of ours?? We do NOT want them here, our governor has objected, our Congressmen have objected, our State Legislature objected with only ONE dissenting vote--but we had them shoved down our throats anyway.

Heidi
