Re: Training Speeds?



I agree with Susan. My mare has at least a 5 mph walk (over measured
distance, on uneven trail), I imagine that her trot is faster and her canter
should be faster still, but I don't know for sure. I've just started
incorporating trotting into my LSD and not over any distance long enough to
measure. My mare is a coming 6YO and seems to be coming along just fine.

When she was 4, all I was doing was walking. I've seen what speed too early
does to horses who do distance sports. I've also seen the good that lots of
LSD does for the horse.

What's happened? I used to see more talk like this on RC a couple of years
back. I got this message loud and clear at just the right time.
