As so many have pointed out, there was a typo in the earlier message
regarding the upcoming Inyo County Supervisor's meeting. The meeting is to
be held August 28, 2001 (Tomorrow). Sorry for the late notice but we just
received word of the meeting ourselves.

ORIGINAL MESSAGE:

The Wilderness Society is scheduled to give a presentation to the Inyo
County Board of Supervisors to solicit support for their proposal to
Congressionally designate additional wilderness areas in Inyo and Mono
Counties. It appears that Senator Boxer is already onboard and preparing
legislation.
According to the agenda, the presentation is scheduled for Tuesday
August 28, 2001 at 10:05. The Inyo County Board of Supervisors meeting
will begin at 9:00 AM in Independence in the Administration Building
immediately north of the Inyo County Court House.
The areas proposed for designation as wilderness include many areas
along the eastern face of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and a huge chunk of
public land in the White Mountains. Many people depend on the current
access to most of these areas for recreational purposes.
Anyone interested in maintaining access to these last few remaining
areas should attend the Supervisor's meeting and voice their concern if at
all possible.

This information is provided by Ron Schiller, Chairman, High Desert
Multiple Use Coalition. As usual, please feel free to pass this
information on to any other interested parties. Anyone wishing to receive
future information regarding WEMO or issues related to the management of
public lands in the California Desert should send an e-mail to
schiller@ridgecrest.ca.us and request to be placed on the distribution
list. Please print "PLEASE ADD TO LIST" in the subject line.
