spooking on trails

Hello everyone,
When my horse knows a trail really well he will spook
at the same stuff no matter how many times he has seen

it. So I just started taking him off the trail in to
the sage brush  ( yes I live in Nevada) to make him
think about what he is doing. It seems to work after
all he stops spooking for awhile and starts focusing
more.
