Your everyday rides do not have prize money.  Some
international events do, although maybe the elite 2%
of our membership do those rides.  

IAHA (International Arabian Horse Association) has
prize money for Regional and National IAHA
Championship rides for Arabians and Half-Arabians who
are Sweepstakes Nominated and place in the top 5
(Regional) and top 10 (National).  Not a large
percentage of horses are Sweepstakes since it can be
expensive to enroll. 

But don't go racing out to spend the big bucks -- the
first-place winner at the NATIONAL level gets $5,000
-- unless it's a gelding, and the gelding incentive
makes the total prize $6,250.  The "purse" for
finishing 3rd through 10th is something around $500. 
Valerie did win the National Championship last year
and got that money, but I think she's won the rest
doing International.
