I ride in a camel back that is like a fanny pack (around the waist only, and not over the shoulders at all)...  works great, and never have any soreness.   It doesn't hold quite as much water as the others, but more then the water bottles alone for sure.  You can get this model at REI and Title Nine Sports (has a web site).
