advice for girth sore

On August 4 I rode my horse for 4 hours beginning in  preparation for a 25
miler. This was the longest we had ridden before. When I returned to the
barn I noticed large bumps on her back and the girth area had 2 golf size
bumps that were tender when touched. Over the last 2 weeks the back whelps
disappeared but girth bumps went down in size but still unable to ride
because they cause her obvious pain when girth is tightened. Vet came out
Frid. to give routine shots and said there was scar tissue; but in time
should go away. Has anyone out there had this situation and how long did
it take to go away? Any solutions or suggestions for me?

I was riding in a Collegiate Senior with a leather girth.
