USUALLY this problem becomes apparent during the hot months of the year
because the heat is perpetuating the hatching of the bugs.  The
"eggs/larva" are normally there but unable to be seen, not necessarily
because the grain is old.  This has been more prevelant this year due to
the very hot weather we all have been experiencing.  These bugs are not
necessarily detrimental to your animals - however, it needs to be your
decision whether or not to feed.  A way to avoid bugs would be to feed a
pelleted product, as pelleting would neutralize the pre-existing
contaminates in the feed ingredients. Even when in natural grazing
conditions, your horses are exposed to a multitude of contaminates (bugs
included)
