Bone spavin treatments - laser?

Hi all -

I just found out that my vet college is flying in an
expert on equine laser surgery, and my horse was
selected as a candidate for laser surgery on his
hocks. The goal of this surgery is to encourage the
joint to fuse much much faster than it would normally
(and it should decrease the pain my horse would have
to go through to get to that point on his own). I have
to, of course, ask the surgeon many many MANY
questions before even considering doing this to my
beloved horse. But I'm wondering if any of you out
there have had this surgery done, or can give me some
insight of what the pros and cons are of laser
surgery...
