stumbling gaited horse

Ray O. rno2m@virginia.edu
This MAY be helpful:The fact that she's TWH is neither here nor
there. Many gaited horses are HFH-heavy on the forehand. If the horse does
NOT nod it's head at the gait,it is NOT walking or running walk-ing,(those
gaits are really really safe and not at all prone to stumbling onto the
forehand.)Without head nod,it is probably doing some sort of rack, stepping
pace,or fox-trot,which in my scary experience are far more prone to
falling.Another indication of a true running walk is a seamless transition
into and out of the canter-lope-mighty handy in rough terrrain.I had some
good advice on this business of falling onto the forehand from Truman, who
said a nice fast breakover on the rear feet might help somewhat, and it
did-somewhat.
