My trainer had me speed up a slow walker by riding in a very close contact
saddle and alternately squeezing legs, not kicking, squeezing. Right, left,
right, left.
Builds 'buns of steel' at the same time. :)
After a few sessions, the horse got the hint.
Now I'm riding an Arab with breaking problems, so 'go' is no longer an
issue. :)
(Ryk is always surprising me with new gaits. So far we have: walk, fast
walk, superfast walk, piaffe at the trot, trot, superfast trot, piaffe at
the lope, slow lope, fast lope, gallop, and the ever popular,
flat-to-the-ground, balls-to-the-wall gallop. Someday I hope to find the
controls to get all these gaits when I want them, but for now, I'm always
surprised!)
