I bought a mare that was sold out from under the teenage daughter because of behavioral problems and not taking care of the horse.  Owner said she had the papers somewhere, would forward them to me.  Well months later I find a picture of my horse at the local tack store stating that she was stolen.  Confronted the parents, seems they didn't know what the daughter was up to as she had run away, and the daughter had the papers and registered the horse under her name.  IAHA was great, I sent them a receipt, let them know that the daughter was a minor registering without permission of the legal owners, the parents, and they sent me the papers.  If you take the time to talk to the registry, they can usually help you.
