Hello,  While Desitin is good for prevenative measures of scratches, i thought i'd share an ole tyme remedy.  During the Great American Horse Race my Virginia horse developed a very bad case crossing Nevada that actually made him lame.  I took the advise of an ole tyme cowboy who advised using Axle Grease.  It worked for me then and allowed me to ride a  strong horse into California.  tom sites
