RE: Breeching



And my experience with pack horses is that breeching, unless very well
fitting will chafe on the horses flanks over fair distances. Remember that
breeching was developed for animals doing mostly a walk as in packing and
carriages.

Think hard about that.  When a horse tucks his butt to go downhill a
loose crupper engages and holds the saddle back, then it's loose again on
the flat.  Breeching is the opposite.  It would have to be cutting into
them before they head downhill to help much.
