It's not the riders, it's the horses. Horse owners in the UAE live and 
compete primarily in the desert. They buy and train horses that can deliver 
sustained effort under hot conditions over uneven, but relatively flat 
terrain. If ever they decide that Tevis is a worthy goal for them, then you 
can be sure that they'll focus on the unique requirements of that race.

 Just replying to Teddy.  Seems like she's down on American riders, and I
 wonder where she gets that opinion from. Tom, I'd love to see things
 proven on a REAL endurance ride.  Please take up the challenge.  We will
 ALL benefit.  Flat racing in the desert just doesn't do it for me. >>

Your challenge, of course, is not mine to accept or decline for anyone in the 
UAE. However, there are some US competitors who will soon be ringing your 
bell for you. They will be exhibiting the same level of competitive 
professionalism I have been talking about.
