Hi,

I think that the only real reason to clip the body is
if the horse is uncomfortably hot and cannot cool
themselves or if the horse second sweats after you put
them away. A trace clip can be a good idea but if you
have never clipped it is also one of the hardest clips
to do - trying to keep all the lines straight.

If you clip the body right now, you will mess up the
summer hair coat. And if you do a hard clip - like a
trace clip - you will have to live with crooked lines
for a long time. Why don't you try a strip clip - it
is a line of hair removed from the throat to the girth
area and can be seen only from the front of the horse?
A strip clip cannot be seen from the side, offers
some cooling and minimizes the need for extra
blankets. You can try the strip clip and if you are
lucky that will be all that the horse needs to help
him cool out until he sheds out. If not you can always
remove more hair.

Whatever you do, don't clip the legs. A trace clip is
like a shaved, curved racing stripe on the horse with
the legs and top line of the horse left furry. You can
adjust the furry top line up according to how much
cooling the horse needs.
