distance driving

I am the chair of driving for the Eastern Competitive Trail Riding
Association (ECTRA). We have 25 to 100 mile drives and they are
a blast. I do not know of any endurance driving going on, but
UMECTRA and SEDRA also have competitive drives.
We use a standard harness and a light two wheeled road cart.
You can see what they look like on our web page.
As for sponging.....we have tossed around the idea of water guns,
but refilling them is a hassle to management. We pray for a game
water crew who is willing to throw water on our horses. If we are
really lucky, we have at least one lake we can drive into. We have
found that large tubs rather than buckets are safer for on-trail water.
We've been distance driving for 20 years in the East, many drives
held along with rides, and they are quite popular. I would be happy
to field any questions of this.
