hunt/eventer vests

Does anyone use the eventer type vests for riding/training young horses?  I
was thinking of buying one for my training rides that I do alone and
wondered what brands are best (for comfort, fit, protection)??  I was
looking at the Troxel and Tipperary vests in the Stateline Catalog...
