Trail Conference -SETC 2001

Southeastern Equestrian Trails Conference 2001

The second annual Southeastern Equestrian Trails Conference (SETC) will be held at Clemson University in South Carolina on March 16-17, 2001. This conference follows the highly successful 1998 National Symposium on Horse Trails in Forest Ecosystems and SETC 2000. SETC membership includes the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. However, trail horsemen, other recreationists, and land managers from all points of the Nation are welcome.

SETC 2001 will feature federal and state agency representatives that will describe new levels of water quality protective measures and what this may mean to trail users. Presentations will include topics such as: Trails and Water Quality Protection; Western Surveys for Cryptosporidium and Giardia in Trail Horses; Designing Trails for Prevention of Erosion and Stream Sedimentation; Water Quality Monitoring; Leave No Trace Horse Trail Use and Horse Camping; Equestrian Trail Safety; Small Stream Water Quality Protection and Monitoring Innovations on the Clemson Experimental Forest; Trail Bridge Construction Using Composite Materials; and the Use of Synthetic Materials for Stream-Level; Stream and West Soil Crossings. In addition, each SETC State will offer a presentation of how they are dealing with these issues.

To work towards the preservation of equestrian trail opportunities on the public lands of the future, join us at SETC 2001.
