It used to be stock horse - way back when . Then working cow horse - now 
reined cow horse . It is three phases - a reining pattern , a cutting,  then 
fence work . Fence work is one cow - you have to turn it each direction in a 
circle , stop it on the fence both directions . The winner has the highest 
score of all three . Shelia Varian had her famous fall doing the fence work . 

Another great reason to come to Reno - the NRCHA ( National Reined Cow Horse 
Association )  has it's Finals here in the fall . They do charge admission - 
but it has a great trade show and maybe some day there will be another 
Arabian winner .
