Stall flooring

What is a good base for stall floors?  My stalls have been dug out until now they are just on the ground.  The floor is about 6 inches below the door frame and I need to build them back up. I have been using woodshavings on top of loose dirt, but after a year of cleaning out stalls, I have removed all the loose dirt.  There has to be a better solution.
