Re: helmets / head trauma and AD

Oooh, I've seen that video. If you can't call it compelling then you are
stronger than I am. I have a Troxel Sport and I don't climb aboard without
it. Took a spill last year - my horse jumped over me in mid-fall. Hooves
grazed my hip and my head. Nasty bruise on hip. Head okay; was grateful
for head protection.

There has been lot of press on Alzheimer's Disease lately, I thought this

people's odds [of getting AD]. Head injury is probably the best documented.
Researchers know from autopsy studies that head trauma can cause an acute
buildup of amyloid plaque... surveys suggest those sudden deposits can have
long-term consequences... In a five-year study involving 2,000 elderly New
Yorkers, Dr. Richard Mayeux of Columbia University found that those who'd
been knocked unconscious as adults developed Alzheimer's at three times the
rate of those who hadn't... (full story on-line at http://www.newsweek.com/)

bump my head!)
