Re: RC: Re: Year End Awards

Terry...

I think what got this started (and please note that some of the comments
on Ridecamp are "tongue in cheek") is that the minutes listed this award
as a "sofa throw". I'm sure that it is nice and intentions were good.
However, "The Jacket" has been around long enough to become something of
an institution and "sofa throw" doesn't bring up positive images.

I know I was disappointed when I read this in the minutes. I have been
in Endurance for quite a while, but never had a horse of my own or the
time to compete at this level. I now have the time and I have been
training my little guy for 5 years...this was his first full year of
competition and he was outstanding. He will never be a Fire 'n Gold or
a High Winds Jedi, etc. and I can't afford six horses to play with or to
buy one and if he can't do it, buy another one. And I wouldn't want to
do that. WE, and that includes my guy Sunny, and my crew, are a TEAM.
They gave me everthing they had and I may never do this again.
(Hopefully, I will) However, I was much anticipating attending the
convention this year....for the first time...and was looking forward to
receiving "The Jacket". It's sorta like the Masters...it has become a
tradition. (Besides, Angie has one and I WANT one! <grin>

Considering the tradition and expectations here, it is reasonable to
think that perhaps the board should have polled the membership regarding
their thoughts on this matter. I know hindsight is 20/20, but thought
you might appreciate the thoughts of a humble first-timer who is excited
about even getting a "sofa throw".

Respectfully, Jim and Sun of Dimanche
