MSM for arthritis

I have a 23 yr old 1/2 arab who has arthritis. arthritis in his front left knee (born with his knee offset) and now has developed arthritis in his left hock.  was looking up arthritis on the web, and one web page said to go here.  so here i am.  any info would be appreciated.  specifically looking for a ratio of how to feed.  he is 1100 lbs.  i imagine i can pick this up at any pharmacy, such as the cloverdale pharmacy that specializes in equine.  also, at this point in his life i am looking for a maintenance, or something to make it possible for a few more rides.  thanks for responding.  janice
