    The answer is "No".  Wedging the heel is an over night change to the 
posision of alinement.  Before doing any changes quick or trying to change 
the hoof, you better know that it will aline with the coffin bone.  This 
takes an x-ray.  Just because it doesn't look right doesn't mean that it 
isn't right.  If your horse is taking a very long time to get heal then maybe 
you should look into a better reason why (if any).  Don't get me wrong, we 
also use the same NB method, but you make sure that what changes your making 
are right for that horse.  It does take about 6 shoeings to see the 
difference and this is about the norm.  Some horses take longer and some 
you'll see corrected in about 3 shoeings.
    If you wedge the heel the hoof growth tells itself that it has heel and 
the supply of growth has been met.  Your farrier is right.
