Arrrrggggghhhh - ticks!

Help, ridecampers!   Seems like this was discussed on RC last summer, but I 
didn't pay much attention since *I* didn't have a problem!!   Mea culpa, mea 
culpa.    Went out to do some nice scratchies on my good buddy, and yuck!   I 
pulled more than 50 ticks off his poor person.    Had an area under his jaw 
with ten or twelve in a four inch spot, right over an enlarged gland (no 
surprise!).  Of course here in the temperate damp northwest, we have the 
occasional tick, but I've never seen 'em like this.   What can I use that's 
safe for the horses but will kill those awful bloodsuckers?   I use a 
Preventic collar on my aussie - can I hook a few of those together?   Help!
