Thanks, Deanna.  My point exactly.  Pretty hard to simulate a ride
situation at home and it is at the ride that he gets so excited and starts
his head tossing.  With experience, we use it less and less and I rarely
have to use it at home (unless we may ride in a big group of strange horses
and even then, hardly ever!).  I have been using the martingale on the
stallion and hope to not need it by ride season and the tie down on my
gelding who is old enough to know better (aren't we all?).  It's all a
learning experience as we go along, is it not?
