Good advice to her, because the presence

  instance.  That many rats in a stable means rats outside and in nearby 
  areas.  Not good.
Meanwhile, I'd try painting some hot pepper oil 
  on the hooves and chestnuts, keeping in mind that when the rats can't chew 
  there, they might find somewhere else to chew that would be 
  worse.
Seems to me there'd have to be an awful lot of rats for a horse 
  to let itself be chewed on [shudder].
