RE: RE: RE: RE: Wild Horses Debunked!

This issue is important - the need for trails and access to public
land is obvious for our sport!
I don't mind discussion of the issue - just keep it rational and
impersonal. We all have something to learn I'm sure.

Steph

p.s. Bob - I've spoken to the BLM folks, and already have a ride
planned for next year, late October. This is some of the finest
riding country (Owyhee county, southern Idaho) I've ever been
it. The low country rivals Death Valley for stark beauty - and
within 10 miles the mountains rise - juniper, pines. At this point
it is almost entirely open. A few cattle allotment fences/gates
to deal with - but mostly, just point your horse's nose and go!

Well, we are having a local meeting tomorrow night on similar subjects.
Seems that some one (unnamed but reviled in this country) wants to make the
Owyhees a National Monument. Realize, the Owyhees not only take in one
complete county in Idaho, they also take in part of Oregon as well.

One of the things that will come up is, if the ranchers leave and the State
Lands are isolated, who will maintain the water supplies to support the wild
horses and large game?

We used to have some endurance rides in the area but had to discontinue as
the BLM thought that our few rides encouraged the general populous to harass
the feral horses. What a laugh as over breeding is their greatest problem.

Then there is the fact that the promises made by the Agencies are not always
(read seldom) kept. (ask Crockett Dumas!)

Yes this subject is very important to endurance riding as it shuts us out of
many places.

And of greater importance is Steph just acquired some land in the Owyhees!
See you there tomorrow night Steph?

Actually this is a list for endurance riding.
