A lot of people don't have a backyard to put a grazing horse.
There are things called zoning laws that get into the way!
Seriously, there are quite a few retired horses where I board
my horse. Some are lucky enough to have devoted owners who
come to walk them and provide supplemental feed. But I live
in an affluent area where horses aren't required to work.
I know of a lot of horseowners that keep their unsound horses,
even not being able to buy a sound horse, because they love them.
I think I would be one of them to do the same.
