Background: there have been conflicts between AHSA
(American Horse Shows Association) and USET (United
States Equestrian Team) regarding the chain of command
and communications protocol between the USOC
(US Olympic Committee) and the individual sports (Eventing,
Dressage, Jumping, Endurance, Vaulting, Reining) . The
two organizations have formed this task force to begin
resolution of the conflicts.

AHSA AND USET ANNOUNCE MEMBERS OF TASK FORCE
FOR STRATEGIC PLANNING INITIATIVE

Gladstone, NJ--October 31, 2000--The American Horse Shows Association (AHSA)
and the United States Equestrian Team (USET) have announced the members of
the Task Force for the Strategic Planning Initiative that the two
organizations have agreed to undertake.
The Strategic Planning Initiative is being launched with the encouragement
of
the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) to try to resolve the issue of
how
international equestrian sport in the United States is to be governed.
The 20 individuals who have agreed to serve on the Task Force are:

Richard Brown
Robert Dover
John H. Fritz
C. Michael Huber
Laura Kraut
Armand Leone, Jr.
Abigail Lufkin
Kathy Meyer
George Morris
David O'Connor
Jessica Ransehousen
Betsy Steiner
Karen Stives
Eric Straus
Chester Weber
John J. P. Weir
Elisabeth Williams
James C. Wofford

 In addition, Kate Jackson and Bob Standish will represent the AHSA and USET
staffs respectively. Additional staff attending will include Jim Wolf and
Bonnie Jenkins from the USET and Sherry Frank and Lori Rawls from the AHSA.
The USOC representatives attending meetings will include Doug Ingram, NGB
Partnership Director and a representative of the Membership and Credentials
Committee.

The group will work to develop a proposal for the governance of the sport
that will:
1) comply with the Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act and the USOC
Constitution and By-Laws,
2) maximize the ability of the United States to achieve sustained
competitive
excellence in international equestrian sport, and
3) be in the best overall interest of the sport.

The first meeting of the Task Force will take place on Monday, Nov. 6, 2000
at the Newark Airport Marriott.
