Unless there is some underlying problem or conformation fault that caused the 
splint I would think you're OK. I have a gelding with a weak right rear and 
before I found out his problem he popped a splint on the left front. The 
splint healed fine with no treatment. I think splints too close to the knee 
joint can be a problem, though. I don't know why or how close is too close 
but I know there have to be some vets left on this list that can answer that:)
