For endurance rides you want to be sure the ones you buy are rated as 12 hour 
ones.  There are some that burn more brightly, but their life duration is 
rated as (I think) 30 minutes.  These are called emergency light sticks.  I 
can't remember for sure, but I think there may also be 6 hour sticks.  I 
never buy anything but the 12 hour ones, so I've forgotten the other options.
