Well, another well-respected organization, the 4-H, requires children be age
9 before they are allowed to handle or show large livestock (sheep, pigs,
horses and cattle). Under that age they can show poultry, rabbits and dogs.
And maybe 9 or 10 may be a tad advanced for junior riders, but it certainly
makes sense to limit LD riders to at LEAST age 6; possible age 8 for 50's,
age 10
for 100's, then age 12, for a very hard ride like Tevis.
