Re: FW: [PNER] FW: pull w/o exam?

Maybe she does need to get a different horse....regardless of whether or not
the horse was lame---because of his different way of going, this question is
going to come up time and time again...RT Muffin had a club foot and along
with it a abnormal gait...if you didn't know the horse, you would swear he
was slightly off. He got pulled at the FINISH of the race of champions one
year(after finishing first)...what the vet saw was a lame horse...people who
new Muffin, said he trotted out just like he always did..The point
is---Darla was taking a chance every time she entered Muffin in a race of
getting pulled by a vet who didn't know the horse...and she chose to take
the chance....Not the vets fault...they call what they see. As for
exhaustion...although a check would have probably been a nice
formality...it's important that a vet have the guts to pull horses who they
perceive as exhausted even if the horses meets parameters...an example is
another ROC where a horse who was running with the leader kept passing all
the parameters but was obviously exhausted...the vets kept suggesting to the
horse's rider that he stay at the holds longer to let the horse eat and rest
and that he slow down...none of which he did and he kept on...the horse had
a big-time crash at the last vet check...
