If you are endurance riding in a remote area and an accident occurs where the rider becomes separated  from his/her horse, what is the best way to catch the horse?

 

I heard from mule skinners (pack string outfitters) to tie a horse out of site of other horses, and let it whinny overnight (or however long it takes).  The loose horse will usually come back.  Has anyone tried this?
