horizontal hoof cracks

A friend has had trouble for over a year with horizontal cracks on her mare's front hooves.The right hoof has two of them now. She has fed ABC's Hoof, something called Foundation from her vet, and is now feeeding Vita Flex's H220. The cracks do not seem to get any better. These are fairly deep, probably an eighth of an inch open, and pretty much across the whole front of the hoof. She wondering what she can do. Perhaps a blood test?
