Re: Riding at night songs/for fun

Ha! No -- you're definitely not alone! I have not ridden much at night,
but I too have a great fear of bears -- I usually have my dogs with me and
my theory is they'll help scare off predators. But I sing too -- often
after many hours of riding I find myself singing (very) loud! Good thing no
one else is around, I ride alone most of the time. It's amazing how when
you get started how many song you'll sorta drift into. I like to sing
Jingle Bells even in the middle of the summer - it has a great rhythm!

Have fun, and be safe,

Carla

>Hi all. I like to ride at night except for a couple little problems. Head
knockers, and large carnivores. When we were pre-riding Tevis, a group of
us got to talking about fear of bears on the Calif. Loop, down amongst the
blackberry vines At home I use bear bells, and hope the bears, (and Mtn.
Lions) are over eating my neighbors trash while I'm out on trail. I fear
riding up between mama and baby bears, as I've done that twice in the day
time this summer! But I told everyone if I get real nervous, I start to
sing. Everyone kind-of snickered especially when I said I often sing the
Barney song, hoping to terrify or placate bears. (I don't remember many
songs) Some people don't admit to singing, maybe they don't want to get on
the bad side of the Advil Yard Gnomes. One of the fine old pros expressed a
preference for "Surrey with the Fringe on Top", quite an appropriate choice.
But now I want to sing "Climb Every Mountain", from the Sound of Music, or
even "The Hills are A!
>live". Except I can't remember the words. Climb every mountain, da da
dada. Can't even find the movie to rent, and now its stuck in my head!
Especially after Granite Chief wilderness. Anybody know the words? Anybody
do this at night or am I just really crazy?
