FW: Pulling with bigger truck

I had a Ford 150 I used to pull a 3-horse stock trailer with, no trailer
brakes, worked fine except that eventually (after 15 years) stripped the
axle splines. I have Pasos, though, that weigh in the 800-1000 lb. range.
Stock trailers are a lot lighter than the regular ones, not to mention give
the horses more freedom.

Regarding trailer brakes and sudden stops, I think that trailer brakes are
mainly useful to stabilize the rig when brakeing downhill or on turns -- in
theory it's probably worse on the horses to jam on the brakes and stop short
of the idiot that pulled out in front of you vs. ramming right into him and
letting him absorb some of the deceleration rather than the horses. Just
hope he's carrying insurance to cover your new grille.

I've got a Chevy 3/4 ton truck (I wanted a one ton dually, but DH wouldn't
go that far). Most I've tried to pull is two horses in a stock trailer.

Should I go for three?

Just curious. I'm afraid I don't groc truck. Gas goes there, oil goes
there, red guages bad, green guages good. Smoke bad. Tires need tred.
Keep fluids topped, tires full of air, be very nice to guys at Jiffy Lube
and gas station and they'll be good to me.

When I bought the truck I told the guy at the dealership I wanted to pull
two large horses in a trailer and still be able to run the AC (I had an old
1/2 ton truck at the time and you could *either* pull horses or run the AC).
