ending remnants of summer

A bit nervous since I hadn't rode Haley in a couple of months. I still get
jitters getting on a strange horse, sometimes even my own. Our nieghbor came
by to say hello just as I was saddling. He held Haley as I mounted. She
moved out fine and We headed to the trail. I hadn't really liked this mare
except for her disposition and her comfortable stride. She has a lazy stride
after five minutes you wanna go to sleep. Sitting on her you are almost
riding a pony. But in the saddle you feel tall. She carries her head up and
her ears have that perfect Arab curl about them. From the saddle her head is
almost regal,"I will carry you to the far ends of the earth" arab head. I
found her to be comforting today. With all the hectic world going on lately
it was a welcome slow paced change. Needless to say she will have me a fine
baby!! good strong baby with looks to spare!!
The first few minutes we went through the separation stuff. Then into a nice
trot. I was in heaven with her trot. If I wasn't floating on air then I was
pretty close to it. We set out for a wonderful ride. I am not sure what
gets me all warm and fuzzy this time of the year. If it is the fact that it
is cooler the leaves are on the verge of turning. It is like mother nature
is giving a last hurah for summer by turning on the heat or just the cool
musty smell the woods have right now. I quiet calm came over me and Haley. I
think she was almost happy to be in a different envirionment with me. We
really were energized from the smells and the scenery. Bugs sang their songs
for us as deer watched us pass with out giving us a thought of being
dangerous. We came to the creek that has been dried up for the summer and
crossed the water gate to the adjacent fields to ride. There we found some
treasures.. An old old house that time has forgotten. vines and weeds all
around. I wonder what It would have been like to live in that house. We saw
three old barns.. barns that had a few stables in them. The weeds were so
thick around them that I wanted to explore but time and weeds were in the
way. We kept on going till we found an old road. It was nearly 1/2 mile in
length and the trees were breath taking. I am not sure how old they were but
I am sure that I was welcome to be their company. Haley and I continued our
exploring till we reached the end of our road that came to an old highway.
As we turned around I saw a sight of a doe and two babies watching us. They
watched us leave with out moving, out of curiosity? We walked towards home
with Haley wondering and wanting to continue our exploring. I had to pull
her to get her to go towards the house. And as we came through the woods.
Haley stopped to look back at mother nature waving goodbye. It is dark now
as I type this the window is open and the crikets continue the serenade. I
hear the horses outside picking grass. I smell the cool air with hints of
fresh cut grass. So long summer see you next year.
Carla (it doesn't get any better than this)
Ansata (what she didn't take me?)
Haley <sigh of contentment>
