We use an electronic trip planner such as Delorme Map and Go.
Fairgrounds are often listed, chamber of commerce almost always is
listed, and campgrounds are listed.  A couple of phone calls to the
numbers listed and you can almost always find the local fairgrounds or
rodeo grounds, or a local stable.

We travel with portable computer and cell phone so it is easy to get
info for anywhere in North America.
